The East Central Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Chapter hosted the 5th annual Girls’ Night event.

This is a night where any middle school girl from Sunman Dearborn Middle School can come to the high school for the evening of fun and empowerment.

Throughout the night, the young girls attended workshops on recognizing and reacting to cyberbullying, how to say no to peer pressure, loving yourself, and how to have healthy relationships.

Advocates, Samantha and Bridgitte from Safe Passage educated the girls on healthy relationships. The other workshops were taught by East Central FCCLA members. This event was completely free to any girl who wanted to come and participate. 50 young girls signed up to participate in Girls’ Night.

FCCLA is an organization that allows teenagers to become great leaders and active members in their communities.

This event was led by FCCLA Members, Molly Graham, Eva Grimm, and Logan Cox. They wanted to make a difference in the lives of young girls to help stop the vicious cycle of bullying among youth.

The event was primarily youth led with high school age girls who volunteered to be mentors to the middle school girls.

The helpers were Hannah Weiler, Caroline Walters, Rylie Hillgrove, Eve Rosenberger, Helen Grimm, Maggie Hoog, Rachel Rosskopf, Kerala Carter, Alexis Cappel, Hannah Lauck, Meghan Vinson, Jenna Doll, Izzy Wiehe, Rachel Kuhn, Danielle Velazquez, Lydia Trabel, Madison Miller, Britney Dole, Angela Marie Tanedo, Sydney Hornberger, and Hayley Lewis. FCCLA Advisers, Mrs. Brenda Osman and Ms. Ashley McConnell, and parent volunteers Leah Cox, Shaun Graham and Patty Grimm oversaw the event and aided the girls in running the event smoothly.

Special thanks go out to LA Sweets, UCB, Los Primos, Remke, and Wilhelm Lumber for sponsoring this event and making it possible.

Freshman Hayley Lewis stated, “Girls’ Night is an extremely impactful event in our community. The girls really expressed themselves and spread tons of positivity!”

Girls’ Night was a huge success and Molly, Eva, and Logan plan to have a follow up meeting with the girls in the spring.
